Polytetrafluoroethylene, commonly known as PTFE, is a highly pure material made from polytetrafluoroethylene. Due to its exceptional chemical stability, excellent electrical insulation, and remarkable heat resistance and weather resistance, it has been widely applied in various fields such as aerospace, electronics, and chemicals. In the field of filter membranes, the applications of PTFE are particularly prominent. PTFE filter membranes primarily utilize microporous structures to achieve precise filtration. Its unique three-dimensional network structure forms micropores with uniform size and high density distribution, effectively intercepting particles, bacteria, and other substances in water, air, or other fluids. These micropores have strong hydrophobic properties, allowing only gas molecules or specific liquid media to pass through under low pressure, while blocking solid particles and liquid droplets. The preparation methods of PTFE filter membranes include track etching, stretching, phase separation, and thermal bonding. Among these, the stretching method is one of the more common techniques. This method employs mechanical stretching to form a porous structure on the surface of the material, resulting in a membrane with excellent physical strength and stable micropore structure. In terms of characteristics, PTFE filter membranes exhibit outstanding chemical corrosion resistance, being able to withstand the erosion of various strong acids, strong bases, and organic solvents without any change in their chemical properties. They show significant advantages in high-temperature environments, capable of continuous operation at temperatures ranging from -196°C to 260°C. Additionally, PTFE filter membranes boast good biocompatibility and low protein adsorption, making them particularly suitable for applications in biopharmaceutical, blood purification, and food and beverage industries. In practical applications, PTFE filter membranes are used in water treatment equipment such as household and industrial water purifiers to remove impurities and improve drinking water quality. In medical fields, they serve as crucial components in sterile filtration systems, effectively removing bacteria and viruses to ensure the safety of injections and infusions. In the chemical industry, they are used for the filtration of various organic solvents and reagents, preventing contamination during chemical reactions and improving product purity. With the advancement of technology and increasing demands, future research on PTFE filter membranes will focus more on enhancing their selectivity and permeability to meet the stringent requirements for precision filtration in extreme conditions.
